Prize Winning Photo

October 21, 2009

This year I submitted a photo to the Tsu City Exhibition. It is the largest photo I have ever printed. On Tuesday the photos were judged. My photo won a prize, so it should be displayed in the exhibit.

My picture is of two sumo wrestlers struggling in the ring. I will probably go to the first day of the show on Saturday.

Giant Photo of a Giant

October 1, 2009

This year I will submit a photo for the Tsu Exhibition. It will be very large. We are printing it on zenshi size paper.

The subject of the photo is also very large. A very fat sumo wrestler is leaning on a small, but strong, wrestler. The smaller athlete won the match, but he is struggling very hard in the photo.

My photo will be at the Region Plaza during the show.

Another Trip to Watch Sumo

July 26, 2008

Today, I will wake up early in the morning and catch a train to Nagoya. We will be watching the 14th day of the sumo tournament. The winner is already decided, but we will have fun regardless. I will go at 8:30am, so I will be eating a couple meals and enjoying a few drinks at the tournament. The weather has been extremely hot and humid, so I hope the temperatures inside the hall are not so bad.

We will be sitting close to the action, so people might see us on TV. Also, I hope to get some good photos with my new camera.

Wrestling Tournament

March 21, 2008

For many years I have been interested in sumo wrestling. I often see it on TV, but until yesterday, I had never seen it in person. I went to Osaka to see the 13th day of the tournament.

Takamisakari fought hard and won his match. Hakuho and Asashoryu also fought hard, but they both lost. Perhaps the last day will be exciting.

We had a good time and threw our seat cushions at the end. I hope to go to Nagoya in May to see more sumo.

Another Visitor

February 23, 2008

My friend who works for Nintendo of America will come to visit in March. She has never visited Asia before, so we plan to do many traditional things.

We will visit sites with old temples and shrines; and places with old houses. Hopefully we can find some festivals with long history. We might go to see ancient crafts as well, like paper making and calligraphy.

Hopefully we can see some plum blossoms. I think the cold weather will delay the flowers long enough. Also, I will take her to eat many kinds of interesting Japanese foods.

On March 20th we will travel to Osaka to see the sumo tournament. I enjoy watching sumo on TV, but this will be my first time to see it live. We are going with some friends who are expert fans.

I am very excited because this will only be the third time that someone has come to visit me. My friend will write a guest article on my blog and will help teach some of my classes.

White Phoenix

September 29, 2007

I went to Narita airport to meet my friend Robert. He is returning to Spain from Korea, but will stay for two days in Tokyo.

While I was waiting for Robert, a plane came from Mongolia. Hakuho (白鵬) came out with his wife and baby and stood about three meters in front of me. He was wearing a jet black kimono with a red sun on it. There was a black phoenix flying across the sun. He looked so cool.
