Leaf Rubbings

October 4, 2011

Fall weather has come to my town. The air is getting cold. People are wearing long sleeves and jackets.

When Fall comes, soon the leaves will start to change colors. After that they will fall from the trees.

During my childhood we would collect leaves and make rubbings. We put thin paper over the leaves and rubbed the paper with charcoal. Sometimes we would use crayons or the side of a pencil tip.

Rubbings made from leaves are very beautiful and fascinating. I like the natural designs.

Sometimes we made rubbings on the kitchen floor. The flooring design was interesting, but it wasn’t natural.

Have you ever made rubbings? Did you use leaves? Did you use something else?

Equinox

September 22, 2010

Tomorrow is a holiday in Japan. In English we call it the Autumnal Equinox. We consider it the first day of Autumn, but it is not a holiday in America.

My wife wants me to spend the day cleaning my library at home. It is messy right now.

Also, she wants me to visit a friend of hers. I have never met her friend so I’m a little nervous. In Japan when we meet a new person we are supposed to use special polite language. I am afraid I will forget and use normal language. I hope he doesn’t think I am rude. I want to leave a good impression.

Do you have trouble remembering when to use polite language?
