Finding Food

October 28, 2010

I live in Japan. I grew up in America. I love Japanese food. I love American food.

When I go shopping at the grocery store, often I can’t find items that are common in America. Likewise, when I visit America, I can’t find items that are common in Japan.

Fortunately, in Seattle there is a Japanese grocery store. We can find many Japanese ingredients there.

Also, in Japan, I found some specialty shops. I can buy many things I like at those stores.

One food that I like a lot is cheddar cheese. I use it when making tacos or chili. Sometimes I just eat it on crackers.

Have you lived in a foreign country? Was there a food you craved? Could you find it someplace?

Long Walk

November 3, 2009

Today was a holiday in Japan. I slept in very late. After I woke up, I went to a coffee shop nearby for breakfast. I also went for a long walk around Ise. Normally I am in a hurry, so it was nice to relax and look around.

I wanted to buy some bread from a great bakery but they were closed today. The bakery is called Boulangerie Tontin. They also sell French cheeses now. They call this business Fromagerie Tontin.

Big Brother

February 12, 2009

Today one of my students wanted to wear my thick, fleece scarf. She was very excited to wear it. The first thing she noticed was that it’s very large. The second thing was that it smelled like a foreigner. Her neighbor smelled it too.

They were both very happy. Sometimes I feel like a big brother that everyone likes.

It was very sunny today and many sparrows were playing outside.

One student made okonomiyaki for all the teachers. It had cheese and rice cake inside. I was very full after eating it.
