Hiring Movers

August 22, 2011

Yesterday we had representatives from three moving companies visit our apartment. Each person gave us an estimate for moving our belongings from the apartment to our new home.

In Japan many things happen at the end of March and beginning of April. School years end and start at that time. Companies hire new staff at that time. Older employees retire at that time. Because of this, moving companies are very busy during March and April.

We are moving in September. It is not a busy time for the movers, so we could negotiate the price. The third company to visit our home gave us a very cheap offer. We accepted the offer.

Have you moved recently? Was it during the peak season?

House Hunting

June 23, 2011

In America, when we look for a new house or apartment, we call it house hunting. It is a strange term. We think it is hard to find the right house, so we have to look very carefully, like a hunter.

Soon, I hope to move to Tsu. I am living in Ise now, but I work in Tsu. Every day I spend a lot of time commuting. This seems very wasteful and makes me feel tired. Every month, I spend a lot of money on gasoline and train tickets.

If I move to Tsu, I can rent a nicer home and still save money because the commuting costs will go away.

Have you moved recently? Do you have a long commute?
